Cypress Gardens debuts its own music competition to showcase local talent on Sunday, March 10th. This highly anticipated event unites the Lowcountry’s best amateur musicians together with an excited audience ready to crown their favorite acts. The top performers in each class (17 and under; 18 and over) will receive a $100.00 cash prize and be crowned “Swamp Celebrities”, a title they will carry for a year.

Cypress Gardens’ Swamp Celebrity Competition
Sunday, March 10th
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Jim Ravoira, a supporter of Cypress Gardens and member of the local ukulele band, “Charleston Hot Shots”, derived the “Swamp Celebrity” competition in hopes of offering a platform for local musicians to shine and showcase their talents. The “Friends of Cypress Gardens” are donating cash prizes for the competition winners.

“Many of the acts who have already signed up are excited about having an opportunity to perform and compete in front of a live audience, “ says Heather Graham, Manager of Cypress Gardens.  “Utilizing the beautiful blackwater swamp backdrop will only add to an energetic atmosphere.”

Performers must be amateurs to enter. Each act will perform one acoustic song up to five minutes long. Single acts, duos, trios and groups are welcome and must register by March 9th. For more information and a full list of performance rules, visit http://swampcelebrity.blogspot.com.

The general public is invited to participate as judges. All Cypress Gardens attractions will be open and operating. “Swamp Celebrity” activities are free with regular paid admission ($10.00 adult, $9.00 Senior, $5.00 child 6 to 12 years of age).
