Berkeley County officials announced today plans for AGRO Merchant Group’s expansion into Berkeley County. The international distribution company owns and operates nearly two million square feet of temperature-controlled warehouse and distribution space in the United States, Austria, Ireland, Spain, and the Netherlands. The move is expected to create 63 new jobs and put some former Piggly Wiggly employees back to work.
Berkeley County officials announced today the preliminary results of an auction the County held Wednesday to help recoup delinquent fees owed by American LaFrance when the company suddenly closed its Moncks Corner operation back in January. Although officials are still awaiting final figures, early calculations indicate the County will likely recover all outstanding taxes and fees under the fee-in-lieu tax agreement, plus costs for operating the auction.

Berkeley County officials announced today that Steven Cotter will head up the county’s EMS operations. The appointment comes on the heels of a two-month search for a new department director. Cotter, the former head of Emergency Medical Services at Piedmont Hospital in Rock Hill, South Carolina, brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and measurable results to Berkeley County. He has also directed EMS operations for Sedgwick County, Kansas and Laurens County, South Carolina and was a shift commander in Greenville County, South Carolina.
