Tri-county Literary Celebration

The inaugural Tri-county Literary Celebration (TLC) and kick-off event for Berkeley Reads aims to recognize published authors residing in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties, foster interest in the arts, increase the number of avid Lowcountry readers, and connect writers and readers of all ages with published authors. Over 100 authors have been invited to meet readers at the TLC event in Dean Hall from 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2015. The event is FREE to the public, and the published works of local authors will be available for purchase.

Fruitmania Garden School for Home Gardeners

This January 17, home gardeners have an opportunity to learn about growing fruit in their own back yards at the Fruitmania Garden School at Cypress Gardens. The all day school will have lectures on citrus, strawberries, blueberries, local pollinators and more. In addition there is a Jam and Jelly Contest, and vendors will be selling fruit trees, plants, honey and more. The cost for entry is $35 and lunch is included. 2014 SC Earthquake Awareness Week

Governor Nikki Haley has proclaimed Earthquake Awareness Week for 2014 be observed October 12-18 in South Carolina. The S.C. Emergency Management Division encourages everyone to take this opportunity to learn about our state’s seismic fault system and how best to prepare for earthquakes. A highlight of the week will be the Great Southeast ShakeOut on Thursday, October 16 at 10:16 in the morning.
