At last there is a guide book for insect pests and beneficial species written for South Carolina. Dr. Merle Shepard and Dr. Ed Farnworth have written an accessible resource for Lowcountry gardeners full of color photographs, many taken by Dr. Shepard. He will discuss some of the main insects of concern as well as insect helpers found in our gardens. Dr. Shepard will be available to autograph books after the discussion.
Colorful modern hybrid teas, old garden roses and many others blooms will be on display during the 23rd Annual Charleston Rose Show on April 25 in the Heritage Museum at Cypress Gardens. New this year is a Rose Photography contest by the society members.
The show draws both novices and experts exhibiting hundreds of local grown roses of every color and form. Cypress Gardens is home to over 150 roses and the Heritage Garden has a collection of antique roses which should be in full bloom during the show.
BCSO’S Annual Summer Deputy's Day Camp will be held on July 13-17, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parental transportation is needed to the Berkeley County Emergency Services Training Center (474 Reid Hill Rd., just behind the Wal-Mart in Moncks Corner) for participation, and child pickup. Drop off time will be at 8:30 a.m. Please make contact with a Deputy before leaving your, child. Pick-up time is 4:00 pm.
The inaugural Tri-county Literary Celebration (TLC) and kick-off event for Berkeley Reads aims to recognize published authors residing in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties, foster interest in the arts, increase the number of avid Lowcountry readers, and connect writers and readers of all ages with published authors. Over 100 authors have been invited to meet readers at the TLC event in Dean Hall from 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2015. The event is FREE to the public, and the published works of local authors will be available for purchase.
