Mary Peagler Brown is a life-long resident of Berkeley County, a graduate of Berkeley High School and has attended Trident Technical College and Baptist College, which is now Charleston Southern University. She is married to Roland Brown, has two sons and is an active member of the Moncks Corner and Berkeley County communities.

Brown has served as Clerk of Court for twenty-nine (29) years. Prior to serving as Clerk of Court, she worked in the Clerk of Court's office as Deputy Clerk of Court for 13 years. Prior to that, she was also employed by the South Carolina Judicial Department for two years.

Brown is an active member of the professional, legal and judicial community. Her many years of work experience is accompanied with numerous positions held with the South Carolina Association of Clerks of Court and Registers committees. She has served as President for three years, Vice-President for two years, and Treasurer for two years. In addition, she has served as an active member of the steering committee of the S.C. Associations of Clerks of Court since 1984 rotating every 2 to 4 years, the Legislative committee since 1994, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee since 2000 and a member of the Statewide Family Court Technology Committee since 2000.
