About The Site
The site contains information about Berkeley County Government departments and services primarily. Some listed services and departments are not funded by county government. Berkeley County Water and Sanitation is an example of a self funded county agency. Others are not funded by county government and do not answer to the county supervisor or county council. Berkeley County Schools is an example of a completely autonomous agency. Some services are state funded and controlled such as the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). In these cases the site contains information to help contact these agencies. Our site contains either links to these agencies or hosts pages with their data.
We are developing an e-services section of the site. We currently provide data on taxes owed for real estate, personal property, and vehicles, comparable sales data, and property cards. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping provides information about property parcels, major roads, streets, water, cities, zoning as well as maps.
The Register of Deeds has made indices available online for all property records filed in the Register of Deeds office for the dates - January 1, 1997 through present. Actual document images are available for the dates- October 1, 2000 through present. In the near future, document images will also become available for the dates -January 1, 1997 through September, 2000.
Our site was developed according to the World Wide Web Consortium guidelines for web development. We are using HTML 4 and Cascading Style Sheets. Any browser capable of rendering these two technologies should work with our site. Some pages may not render well with a 640X480 screen resolution, 800X600 or higher is preferred. Browsers that seem to work well are Internet Explorer 5.0 and above, Netscape 6.0 and above, Opera 6.03 and above (set to interpret like Internet Explorer). JAWS 4.0 in conjunction with Internet Explorer 6.0 seems to work well.
Any feedback from unsighted users or impaired individuals who have trouble navigating the site is appreciated. Please send your comments to us by e-mail.
