Mission Statement
The mission of the Procurement Department is the acquisition of materials, supplies, equipment and services necessary for operation of the County's Departments and to insure that each purchase is made in a legal, ethical and professional manner in compliance with the County’s Procurement Ordinance and the practices of the procurement profession.

BERKELEY COUNTY PINS THE MAP IN AWARDS

Congratulations to Procurement Director, John Hamer, who was honored by his peers at the 33rd Annual Awards Banquet for the South Carolina Association of Governmental Purchasing Officials, Inc. (SCAGPO). The banquet was held on November 17, 2011. Of the five awards presented that evening, John was granted the James H. Barnes Award, which is the highest award given to a SCAGPO member. This award is given to a person who has made outstanding contributions and distinguished accomplishmentsby involvement in SCAGPO activities and the promotion of the public purchasing profession. Also, congratulations to Christy Davis (Procurement) for being elected to the SCAGPO Board for a 2-year term as Region 2 Director!

The Procurement Department:

  • Secures materials, supplies, equipment and services at the lowest possible cost, while achieving the greatest benefit for the County
  • Protects and controls all materials being held in the inventory supply room while minimizing investment and operating costs
  • Analyzes the condition and value of all surplus items, either to relocate to other departments or obtain the highest monetary value by means of public auction, competitive sealed bids or surplus store

Bidder/vendor application

Vendors wishing to be placed on Berkeley County bidder/vendor file will be required to complete a bidder/vendor application form. Forms may be requested from the Procurement Department or downloaded here.

Berkeley County Government will be utilizing the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) 5-digits commodity code in the near future. Vendors submitting applications are requested to include the 5-digits commodity code for their products or services.
