Mission statement
The Berkeley County Library System delivers community-driven library services and programs that create opportunities for personal enrichment, foster a love of reading and literacy, and provide a wide variety of resources for research and entertainment.

We manage our resources efficiently and effectively, and sustain alliances with like-minded organizations and individuals in our service area.

Services

The Berkeley County Library System offers materials for your personal enrichment, lifelong learning, and entertainment. Our knowledgeable and professional staff is dedicated to utilizing library resources in innovative ways to provide a range of services necessary to meet the needs of Berkeley County’s rapidly growing and increasingly diverse population.

The six libraries of Berkeley County serve as the county-wide informational, educational and entertainment resource centers for people of all ages, providing:

• Reference services and materials for check out
• Programs for children, teens and adults to promote literacy and the love of reading
• Public use computers and computer instruction classes
• Support to students and teachers

Library Card

All Berkeley/Dorchester County residents, teachers at schools (public or private) in Berkeley County, Berkeley County property and/or business operators, Berkeley County Government employees and U.S. Active Duty military members and dependents are eligible for a free library card. Non-Berkeley/Dorchester County residents may apply for a renewable one-year card for $30.00. People residing in Berkeley County for six months or less are eligible for a temporary card for $15.00. Present a picture I.D. and proof of address.

Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement

The Berkeley County Library System and The Dorchester County Library System The reciprocal borrowing agreement provides patrons with Berkeley County Library cards the opportunity to borrow materials from Dorchester County Public Libraries.
